A Student Dilemma Procrastination
How to be Productive instead of Procrastinate; A Must for Students.
What is Procrastination?
Procrastination is pervasive in students and workers alike. It acts like a global epidemic, infecting students and workers around the globe, especially those that live in developing countries that require hours of work with little success. Your child may be smart; however, time never waits for anyone and your child may find himself/herself in a situation where completed is easier than done well.
5 steps to success you don’t want to miss
1. Planning
A problem discovered in many studies of students that procrastinate is the difficulty of developing time management skills. As a countermeasure for procrastination, developing a plan will allow the student to stay ahead and keep track of their progress in school.
Keep in mind! Every student has a different method in planning. For example, one student would prefer to buy a paperback planner, and another would like to use a planner app on his/her phone and computer.
2. A Change in Environment
It is evident that a child’s environment would have an influence regarding achieving academic success. In behavioural studies of children, it is highlighted that the environment has a significant impact on the child’s growth. If your child is unable to focus in their own room, find time to take a trip to your local library to avoid distraction such as phones, videogames, television etc.
3. Making Deadlines Daily, Weekly and Monthly
After developing a plan, another step that you can do to contribute to your child’s academic success is making deadlines daily, weekly and monthly. As a student, I can say that its’s extremely hard to make deadlines, therefore gradually ease your child to develop this habit. At the beginning, sit down with your child and make weekly and monthly deadlines. If necessary, create daily deadlines; this is for children that have a hard time keeping track regardless of set deadlines for weeks and months.
4. Stress Relievers
Stress is prevalent in school. It can reach the point where students are unable to function as they feel overwhelmed by stress. Stress relievers are different for every person. It can be a walk in the park, listening to music or many more. Let your child have time to himself or herself outside of school work. Working smart is the goal!
5. Motivation and Support
This is the most important step regarding procrastination. Many times, students experience failures and lose motivation to complete their work. During these times, students require the moral support from parents instead of constant criticism. By encouraging your son or daughter to work hard and praise their successes, he or she will have a strong determination to succeed.
