TOEFL – THE TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IELTS – INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM
  • TOEFL is a test developed to address the problem of ensuring English language proficiency for non-native speakers wishing to study at American universities.
  • The whole test is about three hours long and can be taken on a computer or on paper.
  • TOEFL is scored on a scale of 0 – 120. Each section is scored from 0 – 30 points.
  • The TOEFL score is valid for two years. If you take it more than once, universities will usually only consider the most recent score.
 
  • IELTS is an international standardised test of English language proficiency. It is jointly managed by University of Cambridge, the British Council and IDP Educational Pty Ltd.
  • There are two versions of the IELTS: Academic and General Training
  • Academic is for candidates who want to enroll in those universities and other institutions of higher education that require the students to be proficient in English Language.
  • General training is for those who plan to do non-academic training, as well as professionals who want to work in an English-speaking country or fulfill immigration requirements.
  • The reading, writing and listening modules are 2 hours and 45 minutes long. Speaking is about 15 minutes which usually happens on another day before or after the exam
  • IELTS scoring is from 1- 9. The accepted level depends on the institution.
While there is no official expiration date, institutions do not consider an IELTS score older than two years.
